Our Collection Overview
The Central Library of Netaji Mahavidyalaya has developed an excellent collection of books, journals and non-book material in science, humanities, social sciences and management. Collection building – a core activity of the library, has been undergoing a transformation. However, most of books, both text and reference, are still preferred in print-only. The library collection comprising of books, journals, theses, reports, standards, pamphlets, Maps CD-ROM and other reading material.Â
Netaji Collection
We have some books on the life and works of grate sonof India, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, who the college is also named after. Here we have also works of many freedom fighters and statesmen of India. The number indicates only the number of books with which the collection was initiated. Presently, the section has the one hundred volume “The complete works of Gandhiji”; works of Dr. B.R. Amedkar, speeches and writings of many prime ministers and presidents of India.
Dr. Kamal Krishna Ghose Collection
Late Dr Kamal Krishna Ghose (1932-2009), was the Professor and Head of the Department of Business Management in the University of Calcutta. Our Principal, Dr. A. K. De was the scholar of Dr. Kamal Krishna Ghose.
After his demise, his famiy donated his entire personal collection to the college. The subject s of the books vary from management to literature, religion to psychology. The Library feels privileged to house the collection of such a versatile scholar.
Dr. Ambuj Basu Collection
Prof. Ambuj Basu was the ex-professor of Bengali of this college. After his demise, his family donated his entire personal collection of books and other documents to the library. We feel inspired to be in touch with such an invaluable collection of various disciplines.
Vidyanidhi Collection
Jogesh Chandra Roy (1859 – 1956). a noted scientist. antiquarian. writer was born in Dighra village in Arambagh subdivision of Hooghly district. He passed the Entrance (1879) from Burdwan Raj School. and the FA and BA (1882) from Hughli College. After completing his MA in Botany in 1883 he joined as lecturer at Cuttack Ravenshaw College. He also taught at Calcutta Madrasah College. Chittagong college and Presidency college for some time. then again at Cuttack Ravenshaw College till his retirement in 1919. In 1920 he returned to Bankura.
Jogesh Chandra ray was awarded the Vidyanidhi (1910) by the Pandit Sabha of Puri. Rabindra Smrti Puraskar. Rampran Gupta Puraskar. Jagattarini Svarna Padak by Calcutta University and Sarojini Padak. Calcutta University awarded him an honorary doctorate. He died on 30 July 1956.
When this college was established in 1948, he donated some of his valuable books to the library. It could legitimately be said that. the college library started her journey with the patronage of the great scholar. The books are mostly on religion. These books are now part of our rare collection.
Old and rare book Collection
The collection consists of the books of Vidyanidhi collection and some other books like twenty volume set of International Encyclopaedia of English Literature (1886 edition). All books in this section are more than one hundred years old. Their pages are brittle in nature, So, it anyone wants to study them, they have to do l under the dted supervisdon of any lituarv stat
